The de Havilland DH-5 entered into service production on January 15, 1917.
Although not pleasent in appearence due to its backward stagger and false rumors about its design, the DH-5 proved to be a good preformer and robust aircraft of the period. Actual performance was mediocre as a fighter but highly valued as a bomber escort or used to great extent in ground attacks. Possibly the most outstanding characteristic of the DH-5 was its structural strength. About
550 DH-5's were built.
